Transformative Focusing or Embodied Wisdom is a way of listening within. Not just to your thoughts, words and beliefs but also to what your body, mind and soul knows altogether about your life. Embodied Wisdom entails listening to yourself with a receptive, openly curious attitude allowing healing, insight, physical release, creativity, transformation and self-acceptance to arise naturally. Embodied Wisdom acknowledges our body as the bedrock of our being. Even our language acknowledges the fundamental importance of our body to our living experiences; gut-feelings, scared stiff, blind-sided, knot in our stomach, frozen with fear, warm-hearted, even-handed and so on. Embodied Wisdom process can systematically and consistently acknowledge, accept and access our body intelligence and wisdom.
Embodied Wisdom helps you to make sense of what you sense.
The process of Embodied Wisdom, based upon Focusing, works because we listen to our felt-sense - which is the combination of subtle physcial sensations & our still, small voice within. When we find the whole meaning about an issue from the past or the present or a question about our future, from this place, a felt shift or release moves within us. These subtle bodily feelings are our source of wisdom and our source of life energy. When we re-connect with our own inner wisdom and life energy we become able to transcend limiting beliefs, open up to wider meanings, accept ourselves more readily with tender, loving care & compassion and trust our decisions and choices.
Transformative Focusing is both a natural process that all of us have experienced on occasion AND a simple method that can be practiced in order to develop our natural ability. Sometimes it is called intuition, sometime gut-instinct, sometimes it is just an unsettledness or physcial sensation that you can't quite put your finger on but you know is there just at the edge of your awareness. You might hear yourself saying:
“There’s something about this person that bothers me.”
“I don’t know what's stopping from achieving my goal...it's like something gets in my way.”
“For some reason, I just feel more at ease with this decision.”
“I feel this pressure to keep going faster and get more done.”
“I know I forgot something, but I can't think what it is.”
We often don’t know what to do with this bodily felt sense or even how to understand it. Somehow we get stuck or we stop paying attention to it before we get to a whole understanding of our experience. We might label it or ignore it. We might judge it as superstitious or just a another feeling that we don't want to experience. This disconnection with, and potential conflict between, our body~heart~mind is one of the root causes of physical and emotional symptoms such as chronic muscle tension, pain, boredom, depression, confusion, anxiety, lack of self-confidence, etc.
Embodied Wisdom or Transformative Focusing are special ways of being with and paying attention to body~heart~mind and intuition. Since your body~heart~mind intelligently store data from every living moment, they can show you what you need to know. It is also a wonderful window into our own inner wisdom born from experience, an opportunity to really be-with, embrace and accept ourselves just as we are and a tool for accessing and expressing our creativity and intuition. Embodied Wisdom and Transformative Focusing can help you learn how to help this process complete itself, giving you more productive access to your inner wisdom, access and trust intuition to improve your decisions and choices in life and help you come into more balance and ease to your body.
Embodied Wisdom is the art of finding your inner voice; learning to find and listen to your true voice and create your life from that place. You may access your Embodied Wisdom through journalling, art, collage, poetry, writing, movement or quiet inner conversations.
